The Locust Valley School District participates in the National School Lunch Program. This program is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the New York State Education Department of Child Nutrition. School lunches are planned to provide 1/3 of the daily recommended dietary allowance for school age children. In Locust Valley Schools students are encouraged to select a complete meal which consists of 5 items – meat or meat alternate, vegetable, fruit, bread or bread alternate and milk. Menus are planned to include a variety of choices. Recent changes in food specifications and preparation has lowered sodium, fat and sugar in lunches and snacks. Emphasis is on nutrition in all food served and a la carte items available in our schools.
