Locust Valley Central School District is pleased to announce that Allison Wasserman has been appointed Bayville Elementary School Assistant Principal. Ms. Wasserman will begin on July 1, 2021, replacing Dorothy McManus upon her retirement.

Ms. Wasserman brings enthusiasm to her new role and experience that will allow her to successfully support students, teachers and families. She currently serves as the Interim Districtwide Elementary Assistant Principal in the Plainedge School District. In this role, Ms. Wasserman has assisted teachers with curriculum planning and the utilization of technology tools, attended and turnkeyed programs to support the Teachers College Reading & Writing Program and supports the daily functions of three elementary schools, including approximately 1,200 students and 200 staff members.

Prior to taking this role, Ms. Wasserman was a K-8 literacy coach in the same district, as well as the Summer Enrichment Program Coordinator and the STARS Enrichment Academy Coordinator. She has been a reading specialist and a fifth grade teacher in the Valley Stream and East Williston School Districts, respectively.

Ms. Wasserman earned her Bachelor of Science in business administration from Hofstra University, Master of Science in literacy and Master of Science in childhood education from Hunter College and two education administration certifications from The College of Saint Rose.

“I deeply value communication and collaboration,” Ms. Wasserman said. “I am a leader who takes pride in motivating my staff through leading by example.” She looks forward to rolling up her sleeves and working shoulder to shoulder with staff, students and families to navigate challenging situations.

Ms. Wasserman was chosen following a rigorous selection process which included evaluating 200 résumés. The pool was narrowed to 20 candidates, interviewed by Superintendent of Schools Kenneth E. Graham, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Anthony Davidson and Bayville Elementary School Principal Scott McElhiney. Seven candidates were recommended to a hiring committee, comprised of administrators, teachers and parents. The committee recommended three finalists, each of whom was invited to a more in-depth interview prior to Ms. Wasserman being selected for the position based on these interviews and the specific comments from the hiring committee.

Dr. Graham said that Ms. Wasserman brings a variety of skills to her new position. “Her experience makes her a well-rounded leader who I believe will lead with compassion and the kind of energy that the Bayville school community is accustomed to,” he said. “I look forward to welcoming Ms. Wasserman to the Falcon family, and I am confident she will be an asset to our school district.”
