Locust Valley High School students in the Model United Nations Club and International Relations class participated in the Washington Area Model United Nations Conference from March 4-7. The conference was hosted virtually by George Washington University. Congratulations to senior Zachary Watson for earning the Honorable Mention Best Delegate award in the role of Emanuel Piekarski in the Kiel Mutiny Committee.

Students also participated in the Clark University Model United Nations Conference on March 20. Congratulations to senior Shannon MacArthur for earning the best score in her committee for her position paper on the Suez Canal Crisis. She took on the role of Sir Lancelot Joynson-Hicks in The British House of Commons, 1956 Committee. Shannon’s writing included treaties, quotes and numerous sources.

Model United Nations advisers Ashley Gruter and Stephanie Scavelli said that Zachary and Shannon performed exceptionally well and were both deserving of earning recognition. “We are proud of all of the participants,” Ms. Gruter said. “They worked hard and they made Locust valley proud.”
