Three Students Recognized by National Merit Corporation
Locust Valley High School is proud to announce that senior Brooke DiSpirito has been named a National Merit Scholarship Corporation semifinalist for her outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/NMSQT. The corporation names the top scorers on the exam each year.
Brooke is one of 16,000 students to perform at exceptional levels on the PSAT out of the 1.5 million students who took the exam. She is an IB Diploma candidate and captain of the kickline, and has held the lead dance position in many of the high school’s musicals. Outside of school, she is a passionate ballerina. Brooke also loves writing and participates in the school’s Writers and Directors Workshops.
Seniors Charlotte Creedon and Caroline Martocci were named Commended students in the competition. Charlotte is an IB student, a member of Model United Nations, Book Club and Interact, as well as the varsity field hockey team. Caroline is an IB Diploma candidate, President of Model United Nations, Co-President of Globe Talk, Vice President of National Honor Society and Past President of the National Spanish Honor Society.
Brooke is now eligible to become a finalist in the competition by meeting high academic standards. If selected as a finalist, she will become eligible for a National Merit Scholarship. Additionally, the College Board shares the names of finalists with colleges and universities, which often offer their own scholarships to the winners. Finalists will be announced in February.
