Boys Soccer Clinches First-Ever County Championship Title!

Boys soccer team after winning game thumbnail206327

For the first time in Locust Valley history, the boys’ soccer program has clinched the county title! The team won the 2021 Class B Nassau County Championship in a thrilling double overtime match. For the second straight playoff game the defense was almost flawless as Ethan Vitale, Jack Ginsberg, Daniel Ceja, and Zach Zegarek thwarted each attack. Goalie Miklos Argyelan made six saves in the match with two late diving saves to keep the team alive. The midfield worked tirelessly as Willy Guillen, Johnny Guillen, Daniel Green, Marvin Turcios, and Tito Rivas-Cruz wouldn't allow any free plays past them. After a scoreless first half the team fell behind on a penalty kick midway through the second. The Falcons only became more motivated and eventually sophomore Johnny Guillen set up senior Zach Zegarek for a shot and Zegarek sent the ball upper ninety from 35 yards out. The teams then traded chances but both were unable to add a second goal.

The Falcons took over the game in overtime, relentlessly attacking and going for the win. After a scoreless first overtime, the team used its experience and applied more pressure in the second overtime. The Locust Valley team's excellent fitness levels showed and eventually the forwards connected. Senior captain Charlie Jacobs dribbled past two defenders and crossed the ball to the center to a high flying Brandon Villanueva. Villanueva one-timed the pass into the back of the net scoring his second straight double overtime game-winning goal for the Falcons.

After celebrating the team's County Championship, they are now preparing for the next games. The Falcons will play in the Nassau County BC Championship on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at Wheatley High School before heading to the Long Island Class B Championship game on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. at Mitchell Field.

Congratulations to the Falcons team members, the coaches and all of the families who support the soccer program so enthusiastically! Go Falcons!
