Eight Locust Valley High School seniors were celebrated for their commitment to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. During a ceremony held outside the high school under sunny skies, the student-athletes came together with their families and administrators to be recognized for their achievements.
Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Danielle Turner, Ed.D., praised the students for their accomplishments, not only on the athletic fields, but in the classroom, pointing out that the colleges these students are attending also require them to excel in the classroom.
Johannes Bressel is a dominant rower, not only on Long Island, but across the country. He has traveled around the world to compete in rowing and will be joining the team at Colgate University this fall.
Luke Delicicchi is another star lacrosse player who has led the Falcons on and off the field. He has been highlighted by USA Lacrosse in national publications as a member of the USA under 17 team, and will play at the collegiate level for Brown University.
Natalie MacArthur is also an All-Conference and All-Division standout runner for the Falcons, making an impact on the team. She will join the cross-country team at Ithaca College.
Shannon MacArthur is an All-Conference and All-Division runner and track athlete and plays a vital role for the Falcons. She will participate on the cross-country and track teams at Suffolk University.
John Madsen is a standout lacrosse player who has been an integral part of the Falcons team this season. John was also a member of the USA under 15 team. As the Falcon’s team captain, John has certainly left his mark on the program and will surely make a mark playing for Hofstra University.
Colin McCullagh is one of the top-ranked golfers on Long Island. He was an All-County selection in 2018 and the team’s Unsung Hero. He has trained with professional golfers all over the country, and will be playing for Monmouth University.
Sean Murphy is a two-sport standout, leading the Falcons football and basketball teams. As an All-County, All-Conference and second-team, All-Long Island football selection this year, Sean has also led the basketball team as captain and in scoring and rebounding. He was an All-County selection for LongIslandBasketball.com. Sean will take his talents to SUNY Maritime to play football and basketball.
Alexandra Weilert is a strong rower who competes on a national level. Also focused on her academics, Ali has committed to joining the rowing team at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University next year.
Superintendent of Schools Kenneth E. Graham, Ed.D., extends his congratulations to the student-athletes. “It takes a tremendous amount of discipline to attend practices and games while maintaining academic excellence,” he said. “These students have proven that they can accomplish their goals and make their dreams come true. I look forward to hearing about their future successes on and off the field.”
