The Board of Education, at its Sept. 15 meeting, appointed George Vasiliou to fill a seat vacated in July. Mr. Vasiliou was chosen unanimously by the Board after interviews of eight candidates, each one having submitted a resume in August and participating in an in-person interview.

“Each candidate presented with a unique set of skills and a desire to contribute to our mission of serving the students of the LV school community,” said Board of Education President Brian T. Nolan.

Mr. Vasiliou has an extensive background in school finance and school business.  He worked for many years for the NYC DOE where he served as Chief of Staff for the CEO of the Division of Human Resources and Talent. He was appointed as Deputy Chief Operating Officer and oversaw the Chancellor's Fellowship. Mr. Vasiliou then became the Executive Director of the Division of Financial Operations, where he oversaw the payroll for 146K employees, payable operations, revenue operations, accounting, banking, collections and the impartial hearing office for the NYC Department of Education. Mr. Vasiliou currently serves as Director of Strategic Initiatives for the TemPostions Group.

“Trustee Vasiliou will offer experience, knowledge and a teamwork approach to our Board's operation.  We welcome him as a colleague and look forward to partnering as we move Locust Valley schools forward,” said Mr. Nolan.

Mr. Vasiliou’s term runs from Sept. 15, 2020 through May 18, 2021.
