Behind the masks, it was clear there were plenty of smiles as students returned to school for the first time since March. Eyes wide with excitement, Falcons settled in quickly to the new routine, which included wearing those masks and having their temperatures taken prior to entering the buildings.
Upon arrival, heading straight to their classrooms, students sat at desks outfitted with three-sided barriers and spaced farther apart than usual. Teachers sometimes stood behind similar barriers and in grades 7-12, welcomed members of their classes joining virtually as the hybrid model of attendance brought the green cohort to school today and will see the white cohort in person on Thursday, Sept. 10.
Those participating in full-time virtual learning also started their school year today, following their own schedule and joining their teachers from home.
Outdoor areas were utilized for fresh air during lessons and recess. While inside, mask breaks were provided by allowing students seated in certain rows to remove their masks at the same time. This checkerboard pattern allows students to take a few minutes without their masks while keeping all students in the classroom safe.
We’re off to a great start with positivity in all of our buildings and we can’t wait for day two. We especially look forward to welcoming the white cohort back!
Special thanks to our incredible staff for helping to create a successful first day of school!
