Multiplying and Dividing Signed Number (integers)

The rule for multiplying and dividing positive and negative numbers is simple:

1)    Multiply or divide as you normally would.

2)    If both numbers are the same sign (both positive or both negative) your answer will be positive.

3)    If the numbers are of different signs (one positive the other negative) your answer will be negative.

Example:

a) -4 -3 = +12

b) +4 +2 = +8

Both Positive or Both Negative

c) -25 -5 = +5

d) +8 +2 = +4

e) -4 +3 = -12

f) +4 -2 = -8

One Positive and One Negative

g) -25 +5 = -5

h) +8 -2 = -4
