Notes on Comparing and Ordering Decimal Numbers
Aim: How do you order decimal numbers using place value?
You order decimals in the same manner that you order whole numbers; you line up the places. With decimals this is even easier because all you have to do is line up the decimal point.
Remember that in any number that does not have a decimal point, the rightmost digit is the one's place so the decimal should be placed at the very end to the right.
You can use a number line to compare decimal numbers also; Look a the following numbers:
5.993; 6.019; 5.91
You can see that these numbers fall between 5.9 and 6.1, So draw a number line (equally spaced) and place the numbers accordingly:
5.91 5.993 6.019
5.9 5.92 5.94 5.96 5.98 6.0 6.02
