General Graph Notes

How to choose the most appropriate graph:

Line Graphs are used to show change over time.  (Example: Population of Bayville over the past 10 years)

Double Line Graphs are useful to compare the relationship between two variables over time. (Example: Minimum Wage increases and Cost of Living on Long Island over the past 20 years)

Bar Graphs are used to compare data at a given point in time.  (Example: The number of Academy Awards won by Movie)

Double Bar Graphs are useful to compare two variables at the same time.  (Example: Average Math Scores and Average English Score by school district in Nassau County)

Circle or Pie Charts are used to show part of a whole or something out of 100%. (Example: of all the oil in the world the percent that is found in each country)
