Finding the square root of non-perfect squares

You can estimate its value by finding the two perfect squares that the number is between:    is between  which is 7 and  which is 8  so we know that the square root of 50 is between 7 and 8, my estimate would be closer to 7 because 50 is so much closer to 49 than it is to 64.  I would estimate, 7.1

You can also use a calculator or a table of values to find the answer to the nearest thousandth.  Every calculator is different, you must use the symbol; see your teacher for further clarification.  Using a calculator the = 7.071.
