Wearing pajamas, sunglasses, a crazy hairstyle, red clothes, and team jerseys are all ways in which students at AMP and LVI are going to fight bullying. Sponsored by the Site Based team, anti-bullying theme days will take place each month, bringing awareness to the topic. An assembly at AMP showcased the themes for students, raising awareness and anticipation. Parents volunteered to dress up giving the primary school children a visual idea of what the theme days would like.

The first of the themes, Pajama Day, was a fun way for students to share the message “Say Goodnight to Bullying.”  Children in Kindergarten through fifth grade donned slippers, flannel pajamas, and their favorite teddy bears and discussed ways to end bullying.

Following pajama day, the ongoing anti-bullying program will encourage students to dress for other themes including:

•    "Team Up Against Bullying” – wear team jerseys
•    “If You See Something, Say Something,” – wear sunglasses
•    “Turn Your Back on Bullying” – wear shirts inside out
•    "Have a Heart – Do Your Part” – wear red clothing
•    “Be Unique – Don’t Follow a Bully” – wear a unique or crazy hairstyle

Locust Valley Elementary Principal Dr. Sophia Gary said using fun themes helps children to focus on the message. “Wearing pajamas is fun for them and reminds them all day that they have the power to ‘Say Goodnight to Bullies’,” she explained.

Dr, Gary said Pajama Day was a success and the children are looking forward to the next dress-up day.
