Bayville Primary School students were busy writing, coloring, gift-wrapping, and having fun … all for a good cause.  The students used their annual Winter Wonderland to collect and fill holiday stockings to donate to children in Long Beach as part of an effort called “Operation Sandy Clause.”

Assistant Principal Dorothy McManus proposed the idea after reading about the collection on the Internet. “We are a beach community and thought we should help our fellow beach community,” she explained. Operation Sandy Clause, organized by a non-profit group in Long Beach, suggested that holiday stockings include personal notes to the children who will receive the stockings. BP students wrote messages wishing the Long Beach children good luck finding new homes, telling them that they too had flooding in their homes, and expressing sentiments of cheer.

Ms. McManus read Polar Express to the children, who attended the event in their pajamas. Families brought stocking stuffers such as gloves, pencils, and gift cards to stores that Long Beach residents could reach. During the Winter Wonderland, attendees helped stuff the stockings surrounded by snowflakes, holiday decorations, and a strong sense of community.

News12 will be featuring the event during a segment that will air on the evening of December 24th.
