Food Drives Provide Holiday Cheer

The Student Councils at Locust Valley Intermediate and Bayville Intermediate Schools are giving some families a little more to be thankful for this holiday season.  Through the councils’ annual holiday food drive, baskets full of stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, cereal, potatoes, and more were collected and delivered to families in need.

Monica Cagney, who along with Shari Zindman serves as the LVI Student Council advisor said it was the students’ drive and determination that brought so many donations in.  “They really got the word out and worked hard to make this food drive a success,” Mrs. Cagney explained. “Due to the storm, we had less time for the collection and still had more food than ever before.”

In Bayville, the food drive was also driven by student effort. "Bayville Intermediate School's Student Council always puts the community's needs first," said BI Principal Scott McElhiney. "Not only did they help those in need through the food drive, they also learned an important lesson about community service and what an important role it plays in the lives of those receiving and those giving."

Great job by all!
