First graders at Bayville Primary School wrote personalized poems for their loved ones and in turn asked their loved ones to reciprocate. Each student invited a loved one to school for a special writing event, in which they shared the poems they wrote. The guests then wrote their own acrostic poems using the children's names and alliteration. Pictures were drawn to illustrate the poems as well.

The event served as a creative way for students to share their writing skills and to serve as the “teachers” as they helped their family members become writers too.

“Events such as this one help children become more enthusiastic about writing,” said Assistant Principal Dorothy McManus. “The feedback from the guests builds their confidence and working together makes it fun!”
