An oil painting created by high school senior Margot Ryan earned first place in the exhibition “Palate to Palette: The Art of Food and Dining” at the Art Guild in Manhasset. Her piece, “Inside Out,” beautifully depicted the inside of a tomato in intricate detail.

As the only high school student to submit artwork to this competition, Margot competed against only adult artists.

The artwork is on display through Oct. 29 at the Art Guild, 200 Port Washington Blvd., Manhasset, New York. Margot was awarded first place and a $300 prize at a reception held on Oct. 15.

LVHS art teacher Melanie Mooney said that Margot's talent and dedication is extraordinary. "Margot's attention to detail is exquisite. She pushes herself conceptually to paint the inside of objects. This can be the details, the pattern or the state of mind. Each painting is a new challenge of self-expression. Margot has mature ideas with a sophisticated vision, which allows the viewer to appreciate the interior of objects that might be otherwise overlooked."
