Locust Valley High School teacher Katharine Murawski was one of only 31 educators from across the nation selected to participate in C-SPAN’s 2015 Educators’ Conference.

The conference, held in Washington, D.C., over two days this summer, provided an opportunity for participants to discover how to integrate C-SPAN’s programs into the classroom. Murawski said she applied to participate in the conference in order to find new ways to improve student performance. As part of the application, she submitted her resume and an essay, which described how she currently uses C-SPAN materials while developing lesson plans and how she plans to share what she learns at the conference with her colleagues.

“The conference taught me how to create small clips of videos for lesson planning using C-SPAN’s vast library of primary source footage,” Murawski said. “C-SPAN’s teacher-friendly website provides ideas for classroom discussions that I will use to address contemporary political issues.”
