Throughout the Locust Valley Central School District, giving has been the focus of the weeks before Thanksgiving. At each of the district’s schools, students and staff came together to collect for those in need. Baskets filled with food for a traditional Thanksgiving meal were donated to the Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club. Baskets were stuffed to the brim with stuffing mix, soup, cranberries, pie crusts, vegetables, yams, coffee, gravy and so much more.

Collections of cereal for veterans, warm hats and gloves for children and other items needed at this time of year have also been successful due to the generosity of our children, faculty and community. Bayville Intermediate School donated food from their collection to the St. Gertrude’s Food Pantry.

According to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anna F. Hunderfund, “One of the most important lessons that anyone could learn is that the greatest gift that anyone can give to themselves is the gift of helping others.” She concluded by saying that because this lesson has been taught so well at home and in school, “our children have begun to learn the importance of helping others, of giving thanks for being able to do so and of knowing that those they helped will have a happier Thanksgiving because of them – the true essence of Thanksgiving.”
