Locust Valley High School will be offering free after-school review sessions for the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) for sophomores and juniors.  The PSAT/NMSQT will be given at Locust Valley High School on Saturday, October 20, 2012. Registration for this review course does not include registration for the PSAT itself.  You will receive a separate letter for PSAT registration in the coming weeks.

All sophomores and juniors are strongly encouraged to take the PSAT/NMSQT.  This exam provides valuable practice for the SAT. More importantly, it will help your child to identify his or her strengths and the areas in which he or she may need to focus prior to the SAT.  Additionally, students in grade 11 who perform well on the PSAT/NMSQT may earn “commended status”.  The College Board shares the names of students who earn this distinction with colleges and universities.  Students who perform exceptionally well on the PSAT/NMSQT qualify for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship.  These scholarships are based solely on a student’s performance on the PSAT in their Junior year.

The review sessions are open to all sophomores and juniors.  As space may become limited, preference will be given to juniors; however, all materials and resources will be shared with interested students.  The review sessions will run from Wednesday, September 19th until Thursday, October 18th from 3 – 4 pm or 6:45 – 7:30 am.  Your child will be informed of his or her room assignment as we get closer to the start of the review.

All sophomores and juniors are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these review sessions in order to maximize their potential for achievement on this important exam.  If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please have your child sign up by bringing the attached form to the high school main office as soon as possible.  You may also register your child by phone by calling 277-5100.
