Winter Wonderland Kicks Off Holiday Celebrations

Dressed in their pajamas and holding their favorite stuffed animals, Bayville Primary School students celebrated the holiday season at the school’s annual Winter Wonderland on the evening of Dec. 7.

The children in kindergarten, first and second grade sat quietly in the school’s lobby as Assistant Principal Dorothy McManus, dressed as a reindeer, read “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Following story time, the students colored, wrote letters to Santa and ate snacks, including hot cocoa with marshmallows.

Families were asked to bring yarn to the event to donate to We Care Blankets, a non-profit organization that provides blankets for children undergoing chemotherapy. Each year, the Winter Wonderland collects for a different cause, always making sure the event serves as a community service project.

Parents and teachers volunteered at the event to serve the snacks, help the children with their projects and clean up.

“This event is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season with our school family,” said Ms. McManus. “The Winter Wonderland is not only fun, but the children feel an incredibly warm sense of community as everyone comes together outside of school hours to celebrate.”
