Usually, visiting the zoo means actually going there. However, Bayville Primary School kindergarten students had the opportunity to visit the Indianapolis Zoo without ever leaving the school library!

Through the Indianapolis Zoo’s Distance Learning Program, students had a two-way videoconference with a representative from the zoo. A total of four schools participated in the conference and the presenter was able to hear and see the students from all the schools.

The interactive presentation focused on The Mitten, the classic story by Jan Brett, about a lost mitten and the animals that find it. Students were introduced to some real-life versions of the book's characters after reading the story. The presenter taught the students interesting facts about each animal described in The Mitten.

The Kindergarteners were raising their hands enthusiastically whenever the zoo representative asked them a question. They could also see the students from the other schools when it was their turn to answer questions.
