The hallways throughout the schools in the district will be a sea of orange and purple each Wednesday when staff and students join together to raise awareness and funds. “OnWednesdays We Wear Purple and Orange” is the brainchild of the sixth-grade teachers who are trying to help their students with a worthy cause.

The sixth graders are raising money to buy a bench at Bailey Arboretum in memory of their classmate, Olivia LoRusso, who lost her hard-fought battle with Leukemia earlier this year. Students and staff members can make donations to the fund for this bench in the middle school office.

“When everyone is in the colors that represent this disease, we bring awareness and we honor Olivia’s memory,” said sixth-grade teacher Evelyn Mason. Fellow sixth-grade teacher Anne Monsees added, “If we can help the sixth graders raise the funds for the memorial bench, that is a bonus.”
