Bayville Intermediate School fifth graders had a party to benefit others – it was a gift wrapping party. The students, their teachers, and parent volunteers wrapped gifts collected by the four classes to donate to the NY Cares Winter Wishes program.

Bayville teacher Lisa Cameron organized this community service project, in which the students fulfilled the holiday wishes of families who might otherwise not receive holiday gifts.  NY Cares sent Ms. Cameron letters from children requesting holiday items – some asked for shoes or clothing, and others wanted toys and games, such as checkers. A total of 36 children’s wishes were fulfilled by the four fifth-grade classes at Bayville Intermediate. For each of these children, several gifts were donated, even if they only asked for one.

Some Bayville families donated the requested gift items, while others supplied wrapping paper, ribbon, tape, bows, and all the necessary items to make the gifts look beautiful. Several parents attended the wrapping party to help the students get all the gifts holiday ready.
