Playing Hoops to Help

The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams played for a good cause as they raised funds for cancer research during the boys’ “Coaches versus Cancer” event and the girls’ “Think Pink” event. Each of the Varsity and JV teams dressed to support the cause for one of their games – the boys all in white, and the girls wearing pink socks and hair ribbons. For both games, a ceremonial pink ball brought the theme full circle.

The boys’ teams dedicated their games to Pete Miller, their youth coach who lost his battle with cancer three years ago. Most of the boys on the JV and Varsity teams were coached by Mr. Miller and he therefore had a great impact on the LVHS basketball program.

Between the girls and boys, $350 was collected for cancer research, and awareness was spread throughout the community. The events’ success was due to the dedication of the player, the coaches, and support from the Athletic Council, which was instrumental in promoting the games and showing support by decorating the gymnasium for each of the games.
