The Locust Valley Intermediate School Student Council coordinated a food drive to help local families, but before delivering the baskets of goodies, the students added a special touch – handmade greeting cards.

Locust Valley families who cannot afford a Thanksgiving feast will receive all the fixings from appetizers to after dinner mints, and every basket will contain a card from the students wishing them a Happy Thanksgiving.

Every class at the school had a basket in their room for students to donate food. The student council supervised the collection and put each of the baskets together with the handmade cards.

Student Council Advisors Monica Cagney and Jane Benstock helped the children organize the food drive. “This is a wonderful activity for the students to realize that there is need in their community and to experience the joy of giving,” Mrs. Benstock said.
