Class of 2012 Salutatorian Hannah Milnes has been named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist by the College Board based on her exceptional performance on the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT). Although this honor is bestowed upon less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide each year, this is the third year in a row that Locust Valley High School has had a National Merit Finalist.

Seniors Tyler Fallon and Natasha Jahchan were named National Merit Scholarship Commended Honorees earlier this school year. Hannah was named a Semifinalist in the competition, which put her in the running to be named a finalist.

The PSAT was taken by 1.5 million high school juniors in 2010. Of those students, Hannah is among an elite group of 15,000 finalists nationwide made up of less than one percent of all the students taking the PSAT.

The College Board shares the names of students who earn these distinctions with colleges and universities. As a finalist, Hannah is now eligible to receive scholarships of $10,000 towards her college education. These scholarships can come from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, corporate sponsors, or the universities the finalists attend.

Congratulations Hannah on this elite accomplishment!
