Senior Jon Gomez is the first wrestler in Locust Valley history to become an Eastern States Wrestling Classic Champion after taking first place in the 126-lb. weight class at the prestigious competition on Jan. 14, 2017. He is also the first Nassau County Division II wrestler to be crowned the champion. Jon will be wrestling at Princeton University in the fall.

Jack Ward took seventh place in the 138-lb. weight class and the team finished in 13th place out of 158 teams. The Eastern States Wrestling Classic is an invitation-only event and considered one of the most challenging on the East Coast.

Wrestling Coach Joseph Enea said all of the wrestlers are champions to him. “I am very proud of the way that the boys competed and how they handled themselves before, during and after their matches.” Five wrestlers competed and each of them won at least two matches.

Congratulations to: Gage DeNatale, grade 9; Bailey O'Brien, grade 11; Jack Ward, grade 11; Pat Briody, grade 12; and Jon Gomez, grade 12.
