Collecting for a cause is commonplace throughout LVCSD. But one of those causes is closer to home than most. The Matthew Fetzer Toy Drive, an annual event held in each of our schools, is in honor of Matthew, a former student who lost his battle with cancer when he was a student at Bayville Intermediate School.
Matthew’s family donates toys to children who have to spend the holidays in the hospital. It was Matthew’s dream to collect toys for sick children after his recovery. Although Matthew did not have the opportunity to carry out his dream, The Fetzer family does it in his honor. And every year, the LVCSD community joins in, donating hundreds of brand new toys.

The student councils at each school organized toy drives, filling up boxes in their classrooms, hallways, and cafeterias. Mr. and Mrs. Fetzer told the students how grateful they are for the donations and reminded them of the smiles they are putting on other children’s faces.

The entire district is wishing a happy holiday season to all those children who can’t spend the holidays at home with their families.
