Locust Valley High School has been honored with a prestigious award from New York State. Named a NYSPHSAA Scholar/Athlete Team School of Distinction, the District was presented with a beautiful engraved award that will be displayed in the Wall of Fame. This honor, given to only 20 schools in New York State, is earned by having every single team in a given school year achieve scholar-athlete status. To be named a scholar-athlete team, an entire team must maintain a GPA of  90 or higher. Every LVHS athletic team in the 2010-2011 school year maintained that average.

A ceremony was held at Nassau BOCES, at which the award was presented to the District. BOCES Executive Director of Interscholastic Athletics, Todd Heimer presented the award to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anna F. Hunderfund; Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics, Mark J. Dantuono; and LVHS Principal Dr. Kieran McGuire.

“This means that our student athletes are remarkable young men and women who compete extremely well on the field, and give equal attention to academics,” said Mr. Dantuono. “This is an honor achieved by a small percentage of schools and our students should be commended for their dedication to remaining all-around student-athletes.”

Congratulations to all the athletes, along with the coaches and teachers who supported them!
