The First Annual Locust Valley Middle School Science Fair highlighted the scientific research projects of 132 students. Experiments, hypotheses and results were presented to visitors who walked around to see each project set up in the middle school cafeteria.

Judges from the high school’s science research program interviewed the young scientists and chose winners despite the high quality of every single project.

Representatives from NYIT School of Education also had displays with technology demonstrations including Google Cardboards, and Oculus Rift, EV3 Robotics and information about 3D printing. Students had the opportunity to test out these various technologies and enjoyed experimenting with them. The high school’s Robotics Team had its award-winning robot available for students to try out as well. They used a joystick to maneuver the metal machine around the room.

Individual and team awards were given for science and engineering categories. Special awards were given for Best Effort and Best Sustainable Solution in honor of the science fair’s theme, "What on Earth."

Certificates and gifts were given to students who entered projects in the Toshiba ExploraVision competition as well as awards to the students in eighth grade accelerated science, and all students received a participation ribbon.

The science fair was organized by Middle School Teaching Assistant, Rebecca Glavan. Special thanks go to the Middle School Parents’ Council for providing refreshments.
