Students at Bayville Primary School competed in their own mini Olympics during the annual field day. The Parade of Athletes marched onto the field carrying the Olympic torch with their student leaders dressed in togas to represent the original Olympics in Greece. Once the torch was lit, the opening ceremony included the young dancers performing a Brazilian Salsa dance, using bead-filled water bottles as maracas. Athletic events included a “Trip to Brazil” in which students carried in their small arms, a large suitcase over one shoulder and an oversized airline ticket under the other arm in a relay-style race. Another event included racing with the Olympic torch in hand and yet another required participants to perform jumping jacks in each of the five Olympic rings. With ten Olympic-themed events, Bayville students certainly earned the gold!
