Locust Valley High School is proud to announce that the following nine students are Commended National Merit  Honorees: Corrine Hastings, Eric Padilla, Eerik Helmik, Casey Hochberg, Alessandra Sorrento, Christina Sorrento, Alexandra Spear, Daniel Ventresca, and Cecilia Wachter.

The students earned this outstanding national recognition from The College Board for their exceptional achievements on the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Tests (PSAT).  Based on student achievement and sponsored annually by The College Board, the ability to earn this designation is an honor which is afforded to only 5% of the more than 1,500,000 students from across our country that complete the PSATs as juniors every year. In addition, the College Board shares the names of students who earn these distinctions with colleges and universities.

Additionally, two of these nine students, Corrine Hastings and Eric Padilla, went on to achieve even greater honors as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists.  This is the first time in recent memory that Locust Valley High School students have qualified for this exceptional designation, one which is only given to 1% of the 1,500,000 students who take the PSATs every year.  Advancing to Semi-Finalist status will afford these extremely academically talented students the opportunity to qualify for more than $36,000,000.00 in National Merit Scholarships which will be offered next spring.

Congratulations to all nine students on this outstanding accomplishment!
