The Spectrum, Locust Valley High School’s student newspaper, has been awarded the Gold Medal from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for the second year in a row. This year, The Spectrum’s score was even higher than last year, showing an improvement in the overall quality of the newspaper.

Each edition of the paper from the 2008-2009 school year was used in the judging and several areas were critiqued including the quality of the stories, writing, photography, design, and typography.

"The Columbia Scholastic Press Association sets the standard for high school publications nationwide,” said Coleen Comerford, The Spectrum’s Advisor. “That we have been recognized with a gold medal from this organization shows that our newspaper ranks among the best high school newspapers in the country.”
