Students at Bayville Primary and Ann MacArthur Primary School learned everything there is to know about fire safety during Fire Prevention Week. The Bayville Fire Department visited BP, while AMP students went to the Locust Valley Fire Department. The firefighters taught the children to “stop, drop, and roll”, to call 911, and much more.  Although many of the students already knew what to do, the firefighters emphasized that it is important to remind children (and adults) of these important safety tips.

Students had the opportunity to go inside a fire truck, to see all the equipment fire fighters use, and even to sit in the seats that firefighters ride in on the way to a call. Bayville Primary School Assistant Principal Dorothy McManus said making the program fun reinforces the message for these young students.  “They will remember sitting in the big fire truck, and will therefore be more likely to remember the safety tips from the presentation.”

Special thanks to the Locust Valley and Bayville Fire Departments for taking the time to make this wonderful presentation!
