Locust Valley High School senior Hannah Milnes has been named a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. She is now eligible to qualify as a National Merit Finalist. Hannah earned this outstanding national recognition from the College Board for her exceptional achievements on the PSAT in October, 2010. Based on student achievement and sponsored annually by the College Board, the ability to earn this designation is an honor afforded to only one percent of the more than 1.5 million students who achieve the highest scores on the PSATs, which are taken by juniors across the country every year. In addition, the College Board shares the names of the students who earn these distinctions with colleges and universities.

Advancing to National Merit Finalist status will afford Hannah the opportunity to qualify for more than $36 million in National Merit Scholarships, which will be announced in February, 2012.

Last year, Hannah’s sister Mary Leah Milnes was chosen as a National Merit Scholar. She and Emma debeer Charno were semifinalists who ultimately went on to receive scholarships.

Congratulations to Hannah for distinguishing herself in such an outstanding manner and continuing our tradition of excellence!
