Second-graders at Ann MacArthur Primary School ensured that their favorite veterans were appreciated in honor of Veterans Day. Through patriotic songs and handmade artwork decorating the stage, the young performers honored their guests and all veterans who have served.

Several students introduced their personal guests, from grandparents to neighbors, as they presented them each with a flower. These veterans served in various branches of the armed services.

Dressed in red, white and blue, the entire grade sang “I Love My Country” by Teresa Jennings, “Thank You Soldiers” by Michael and Angela Souders, “This Land Is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie and “God Bless America” by Irving Berlin. Students also read about the meaning of Veterans Day, including the history of this national holiday.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anna F. Hunderfund attended this special performance and praised the children for their dedication to our country’s heroes. “The performance was very moving,” she said. “The children did an excellent job of honoring those who sacrificed to protect our country.”
