Math lessons can be fun, especially when they include a scavenger hunt based on human dominoes. Using Halloween as an opportunity to enhance the curriculum, the Bayville Primary School faculty dressed as dominoes, and students had math problems to solve using each domino “piece.”

First-, second- and third-graders used the math skills they have learned in their classes to find the right combination of teachers to solve a variety of grade-appropriate math problems. Of course, there were several possibilities for each question. If a student couldn’t find two “dominoes” with three dots each to equal six, they could look for other combinations to reach the answer, such as dominoes with four and two dots.

“An activity such as this shows children that math can be fun and enhances their problem-solving skills,” said Assistant Principal Dorothy McManus.
