Locust Valley High School is a New York State Scholar-Athlete Team School of Distinction for the second year in a row. This prestigious honor means that every single one of the high school’s varsity athletic teams earned scholar athlete status, achieving a grade point average of 90 or higher during the 2014-2015 school year.

Nina Van Erk, executive director of interscholastic athletics for Nassau BOCES, attended the Sept. 9, 2015 Board of Education meeting to present the award to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anna F. Hunderfund, High School Principal Dr. Kieran McGuire and Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Mark J. Dantuono. Representatives of the coaches and student-athletes also attended the meeting to accept the award.

“It is a true honor to be recognized as a School of Distinction,” said Mark J. Dantuono, Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. “Our student-athletes not only work hard on the field, but in the classroom as well. They are dedicated to their sport and to their academics, and they excel at balancing the two.”

Locust Valley is one of only a handful of schools in the state to earn School of Distinction status.
Congratulations to all the student-athletes, along with the coaches and teachers who supported them!
