Students at Bayville Intermediate School and Bayville Primary School love to read, and recently they had incentive to read even more. Principal Scott McElhiney and Assistant Principal Dorothy McManus promised to eat green eggs and ham if the students reached their goal of reading 600 books. It was easy for these young readers who not only reached, but exceeded, the goal!

Students cheered and clapped as Mr. McElhiney and Ms. McManus ate the dish made famous by Dr. Suess, one of the students’ favorite authors.

This event was the culmination of a week-long program celebrating Read Across America Week.  Events took place throughout both schools, such as a canned food drive, a book swap, and a joke-in-pocket day. The week was dedicated to making reading fun while encouraging students to read a variety of materials. The Library Media Centers at both schools worked with the Bayville PTA “Parents as Reading Partners” committee to organize the events.
