Important Information for Sophomores and Juniors:

The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) practice test for the SAT I will be administered on Saturday, October 18th, 2014.  The PSAT is primarily used as a tool to gain knowledge and practice of how to take a timed, standardized exam with a format that mirrors the SAT I exam.

It is important to note that 11th grade students will have the opportunity to qualify for the National Merit competition, which can result in national recognition and scholarship opportunities.

As a sophomore, this exam will not be used to qualify for the National Merit competition as it does for juniors.  It is, however, recommended practice for future high stakes exams.

Registration for the PSAT Exam will begin Monday, September 29th, and continue through Friday, October 10th, 2014.  Students must register in the guidance office by bringing a check for $20.00 made payable to: Locust Valley Central School District.

Students will report to the High School cafeteria by 7:45AM on Saturday, October 18th, 2014Please be sure to bring a four function calculator and sharpened #2 pencils.  The exam takes approximately two and a half to three hours to complete unless you have been approved by College Board for special accommodations.

Once your child registers, they will be given a PSAT manual.  Preparation is available through our FREE PSAT Prep sessions which began on Monday, September 15th both morning and afternoon, Monday through Thursday. Please contact the Main Office (277-5100) if you would like to register for these sessions.  In addition, students may utilize Method Test Prep, an online SAT/ACT prep program available through their Castle Learning accounts.

Please note that registration for the free PSAT course does not automatically register you for the PSAT exam.  Again, please make sure that you register for the exam in the guidance office!

If you have any question or concerns regarding  this exam, please contact the guidance counselor.
