Fifth graders at each of the LVCSD elementary schools were promoted to middle school during ceremonies that included memories and advice for the future.

Board of Education President Suzanne Sgueglia and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anna F. Hunderfund spoke at each of the fifth-grade moving up ceremonies. At Bayville Intermediate School, Ms. Sgueglia reflected on her own graduation from the same school. “I too sat on this stage,” she told the graduates. “I too was curious about the middle school.” She shared with them what wonderful experiences she had in Locust Valley Middle School and encouraged them to take advantage of every opportunity.

Dr. Hunderfund spoke to graduates at each school about their successes and the wonderful impressions they have made on their teachers over the years.

At Bayville Intermediate School, Principal Scott McElhiney reminisced about the first day that the fifth graders entered Kindergarten, which was also his first day in the school. “We started here together,” he said, adding that he hoped the graduates would come back to visit often.

At Locust Valley Intermediate School, Principal Sophia Gary recalled the many wonderful activities that enriched the fifth graders education over the years, including field trips and special projects. She also encouraged them to smile throughout middle school and beyond.

Locust Valley Parent Council President Hayley Byron and Bayville PTA President Bethann Wolfe also addressed the students and their families. They each offered congratulations and good wishes for the future.

At both schools, ceremonies were followed by celebrations supplied by the Parent Council and PTA.

Congratulations to all the graduates and welcome to Locust Valley Middle School!
