The Bayville Intermediate School Student Council is beautifying the neighborhood with flowers. The student leaders planted flowers on the front lawn of the school and also created beautiful potted plants, which they donated to their neighbors at Jones Manor, an assisted living facility.

Student Council Co-Advisor Scott Gallagher said that the group not only works on projects within the school, but also aims to perform community service projects for local organizations. “The children thought that flowers would be a nice way to make people smile this time of year,” he said.

The Student Council plants the flowers in front of the school each year, but decided to take it a step further this year by sending some of the plants over to Jones Manor. During the holidays, they sent homemade cards to the residents. “The students are learning about making a difference in people’s lives and the ideas are their own – they take pride in doing community service,” said Student Council Co-Advisor Christine Hujber.

The Student Council has also held food and coat drives for the needy, organized school spirit days and served as a voice for their classmates when needed.
