Elementary schools throughout the district honored the country’s Veterans in patriotic ceremonies that included some of those special Veterans. Dressed in red, white and blue, students and staff paid tribute through songs, poems and moments of silence.

Bayville Primary School and Bayville Intermediate School students joined together to march to Bayville Village Hall for their ceremony. Joined by members of the local American Legion, Mayor Watson and former Mayor Siegel, students placed flowers by the memorial wall to honor the country’s lost veterans. The band and orchestra played patriotic songs and the students sang.

At Locust Valley Intermediate School, the same events took place on the front lawn. In addition, resident and Veteran Joseph Rydzewski spoke to students about growing up during wartime and serving his country. He encouraged the children to take advantage of the freedom that Veterans have provided for them.

Ann MacArthur Primary School Students followed in the same traditions and placed flowers at the flagpole, as did their older friends at Locust Valley Intermediate School. Kindergarten students wore special hats made for the occasion and waved flags to the beat of the music.

The LVCSD wishes everyone a safe Memorial Day weekend and we thank our Veterans for all they have done.
