Five students in Shari Zindman’s class at Locust Valley Intermediate School won first place in the Glen Cove Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation’s Intergenerational Essay Contest. The winners are Macenzie Campbell, Olivia deTatto, Daniel Glavan, Danielle Jareugi and Millie Shikia.

Every year for the past 13, Ms. Zindman’s students have entered the contest, which is open to students in grades 3-5 from across Long Island. The theme this year was “The most important thing I learned from a grandfather/grandmother/older person was...” Students had to think of something that they learned from an older person and write about that lesson. The students who won were invited to a ceremony at the Glen Cove Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation where they read their essays aloud, received trophies and other prizes, and were treated to a lavish dessert reception.

“It was a lovely evening when the students were treated like the winners that they are,” said Ms. Zindman.

Congratulations to the students for this honor and to Ms. Zindman - again!
