Locust Valley High School Senior, Mary Leah Milnes, has been named a News12 Scholar Athlete. This honor, bestowed on only 30 high school students across Nassau and Suffolk Counties, is based on Mary Leah’s accomplishments athletically and academically.  She not only is a member of the  volleyball, softball, and track teams, she is also the Class of 2011 Valedictorian, an IB Diploma candidate, and an accomplished musician. Additionally, Mary Leah is the Features Editor of the LVHS Newspaper, The Spectrum.

Locust Valley High School Principal Dr. Kieran McGuire was not surprised by the award. “Mary Leah Milnes is a true competitor in every area of her life.” He added that as Valedictorian, she has the highest grade point average in her class, participates in numerous extracurricular activities and has won awards for her work in The Spectrum.

The feeling is same from all who know her. To be the recipient of the News 12 Scholar Athlete Award is an unbelievable accomplishment, which Mary Leah has earned through hard work, dedication, and by being a team player.  She is now associated with a prestigious group of student-athletes across Long Island,” said Mark J. Dantuono, Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics.

Mary Leah will be featured on News12 on Monday, January 10th at 5:50 p.m. She was presented with a plaque by News12 at school and will be honored at a dinner this spring.
