In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the middle school seventh grade social studies classes had a special enrichment lesson in the library focusing on the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr.

The lesson included a video excerpt from King’s “I Have a Dream” speech and photos and information on a newly erected MLK Monument, which the students will have an opportunity to visit during their trip to Washington D.C. in 2015 as eighth graders. The lesson culminated with a review of the criteria for a primary source document and a database search of these documents. The students used the information to create a document based question, reinforcing both their knowledge of social studies and vital research skills.
