Four LVMS students got the hottest interview of the season as they questioned Rupert Grint, otherwise known as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies. The interview, which took place in person in Manhattan, will appear on Newsday’s website and print edition.

The eighth graders, Mary Kate Guma , Jackie Falino, Niko Martinovic, and Connor Sivacek are all on the staff of the LVMS newspaper, The Voice. Their advisor, Susan Beers arranged for the interview, which included a press screening of the movie and the opportunity to write a movie review that will also appear in Newsday.

“Interviewing and writing skills that these students have learned over the years, were put to the test with this real-life scenario,” explained Mrs. Beers. “These students passed with flying colors!” The staff of The Voice learns about journalism as they put together the school newspaper, interviewing students and staff members. Being able to take that experience and apply it to interviewing a celebrity was an experience they will never forget, she added.

Mrs. Beers was unable to bring the entire newspaper staff to this exciting interview, so names were pulled from a hat to decide which students would attend.

Portions of the movie review and interview will be published on the Newsday website on Friday, November 19th. The full interview will be published in Newsday’s “Kidsday” in March.
