Students at Bayville Intermediate and Locust Valley Intermediate Schools learned about the Democratic process as candidates for Student Council campaigned and were ultimately voted into office by their peers.

Promising to create school spirit days, raise money for those in need and work to make their schools even more wonderful, student council members were inducted into office in ceremonies at each school. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anna F. Hunderfund told the officers that she was proud of the commitment they were making to their schools and to their communities.

At LVI, Student Council advisors Jane Benstock and Shari Zindman organized the induction ceremony, including a slide show of some of the events that student council supported last year. Advisors for the Bayville Intermediate Student Council also organized a wonderful ceremony. Dr. Scott Gallagher worked with Jenna Selzer, who is the temporary advisor until Christine Hujber returns from maternity leave. Mrs. Hujber worked with the students during the election process.

In each school, the students meet regularly to discuss projects they would like to take on. In the past these projects have included food drives, coat drives, dress-up days to promote school spirit, the planting of gardens and fundraisers for various non-profit organizations.

Congratulations to the 2013-2014 Student Council members!
