Learning to read color words has never been so much fun! Students in Lori Duvall’s Kindergarten class at Ann MacArthur Primary School performed a choral reading of the story “Pete the Cat, I Love My White Shoes,” by Eric Litwin.

As Mrs. Duvall read the story aloud, the entire class chimed in singing along with the chorus and holding up signs that had the appropriate color word for the verse in the story.
The activity, which was videotaped so parents could see it at Back to School Night, served many educational purposes. Mrs. Duvall explained that while having fun, the children were reviewing their color words, working cooperatively as a group, following directions, and speaking before a group.

In the story, Pete the Cat walks down the street wearing his brand-new white shoes. Along the way, as he steps in various items, his shoes change from white to red to blue and to brown. The kindergarten class learned that no matter what you step in just keep walking along and singing your song, because “it’s all good!”
